Q. What does staying fit mean to you?

A. It means feeling great in your own body! It’s about more than being physically fit but rather taking that mental break from our busy lives (with work and other obligations) to be present and in the moment.

Q. How do you enjoy staying fit?

A. It’s changed quite a bit since COVID! I usually loved hitting up different bootcamps/HIIT classes around Toronto! Luckily some of my favourite studios have transitioned to online classes (@sweatandtonic @boloinc @yogatreestudios) so it makes it easy to still get a good sweat in! Outside of that I love running and biking!

Q. Aside from physical activity are there other ways you enjoy staying fit?

A. With a dry eraser marker I write positive affirmations, goals and quotes all over my house - mirrors, pictures, windows I am an avid reader. I focus on books that educate me on how to be the best version of myself.

Q. Does food play a role in how you stay fit?

A. Having just finished my PhD in cardiovascular research, I love incorporating my love of science into baking and always aim to make the most heart healthy food I can!

One of my favourites are these protein packed, oatmeal banana chocolate chip muffins:

1 cup plain vanilla Greek yogurt

0.25 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

3 ripe bananas

2 tbsp coconut oil

2 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

0.75 cup rolled oats

0.5 cup almond flour

0.25 whole wheat flour

2 scoops of vanilla whey isolate protein

0.25 cup ground flax

2 tbsp chia seeds

1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 tsp baking powder

0.25 tsp salt

0.75 cup dark chocolate chips

0.25 cup chopped walnuts

Q. What is one of your favourite motivational quotes?

A. TRY EVERYTHING! Find activities that make you feel physically and mentally strong; recognize and accept these activities will be different for everyone!
